What We're All About
Jesus left his church with a mission – to make disciples of all nations. But this mission did not begin with the New Testament church. It began with God. It isn’t our mission, but rather God asks us to join him in his mission. The Mission of God is to restore all things to Himself in and through the person and work of Jesus Christ. His chosen vehicle through which he is accomplishing that mission is the church. The church is the family of God called together to Himself and sent out on his mission. We desire that Mission Life Groups become the primary means through which Crossway Chapel functions in body life for that mission together. We believe that these smaller “communities” will be the best way to accomplish these three gospel essentials:
Develop genuine life to life personal relationships among followers of Christ. LIVE
Connect all types of people to a caring and growing community. GROW
Mobilize people together on mission as those sent by Christ into their world. REACH
A Mission Life Group consists of a committed core of believers (FAMILY) who live out the mission of God together (MISSIONARIES) in a specific area to a particular people group by demonstrating the Gospel in tangible forms (SERVANTS) and declaring the Gospel to others-both those who believe and those who are being exposed to it (LEARNERS).
To clarify, a Missional Life Group is NOT primarily a small group, Bible study, support group, social activist group, or weekly meeting but a community of people LIVING, GROWING, and REACHING out on mission together. Our hope is that every person who is committed to the Crossway family and mission will be fully involved in a Mission Life Group and that as God wills, groups will multiply and spread their mission (God’s Mission) further.
Portions of Crossway’s descriptions are adapted from the work authored by Soma Communities and the material in their ongoing training for leaders and Missional Communities (Soma School) - www.somacommunities.org as well as from The Remedy Church, www.remedynj.com. With God’s leading, as these groups of Christ followers grow and multiply, we would hope and plan for some of them to potentially result in new Crossway church plants as well.
